"The Cut"
I go to alot of tournaments and I always see kids talking about what place their in and what they need to do in oprder
to either stay in the cut or get in the cut. Personally, I want to make the cut everytime, even though I dont. But one of
my best talents in bowling, is that I try not to let distractions bother me. For example, My first ever FYSBT Tournament wasat
Shore Lanes in 04. I needed to beat someone and shoot 240 to make it into the finals. I was in 6th place, and by beating her,
it would knock her out of it completely. Well I shot 244 and beat her. After the match her mother came upto me and cussed
me out, well because it knocked her daughter out of the tournament. I understood her concern for her dqaughter being in the
tournament. I did nothing to say anything to her or to provoke her into saying somehting. I simply bowled my game and bowled
it well. BUT it was a distraction when I went into the finals, because when I bowled in the finals against Joe May, I did
nothing but make bad shots. I let this parent that uelled at me get under my skin, and it distracted me, because I made a
few good shots, and nobody clapped for me, which also bothered me too. Anyways I ended up losing to the eventual champion
Joe May 222-189. That was the one time I let someone get under my skin and distract me. To this day, Nobody is able to distract
me unless you physically gt in my way or touch me. If you have ever noticed me at all of the tournaments inbetween the break
on qualifying day, Im always sitting on the pair that im bowling on next analyzing the ware down lines in the lane, laying
on the approach for a moment to see where there is oil. I dont talk to anyone other than a few friends of mine that I usually
bowl with on a weekly basis; Wyatt Dennington and Raheem Bishop. While im standing and getting ready to make my approach,
depending on how well my day is going, i will play a song in my head, usually something with a good beat to it, so I can time
myself in not only deep breaths but in my steps too. My favorite song to play in my head is Probably one of the most popular
Disney songs ever recorded. See, back when Walt Disney World opened in 1971. Michael Iceberg, a famous musician at that time
played songs in what is now known as Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. Well Iceberg used to come out on stage in this HUGE Pyramid
where the top half came off and he wa sinside playing his music on his Electro Syntheizer in electrosynthemagnetic sounds.
His most famous soung wa the Baroque Hoedown originally written in the 1700's by Perry Kingsley. He called it the Barowue
Hoedown, but is better known to all loyal Disney fans such as myself, as the Theme song to The Main Street Electrical Parade,
the first ever nighttime light parade which made its premier on June 17th 1972. If you ever get the chance, listen to it sometime.
memorize the beat, and most of all, remember to play it in your head to help you block out distractions. Or you can use another
song. But I have found that this song works best. Basically, the moral of this story on Wyatt's Corner, is to not worry about
things, especially the cut. Worrying about making the cut is the biggest reason why most people dont qualify.
